This course is designed to provide opportunities that address the concerns of special needs educators and other school personnel. Participants acquire knowledge regarding the psychological development and characteristics of children and youth. They explore the principles of special education, paying particular attention to the appropriate role of the special educator in a variety of settings. The origin and philosophies of special education are traced and attention is given to issues that currently influence the field of special education, including the Transactional Programs for Adolescents with Disabilities and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Participants may earn 45 PLU’s or 3 graduate credits from Trinity University.
