Professional Development In Washington Dc

Your WTU membership gives you automatic access to the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) benefits. To download a .pdf of AFT benefits, please click here.

As a member of the WTU, you have the power to bargain, the power to negotiate, and the power to change things. You can win improvements, and accomplish the goals that matter to you and to the people you serve.

While all educators in DC public schools receive benefits negotiated by the Washington Teachers’ Union, members of the WTU have a staff of highly trained Field Representatives to support them. The Field Representatives work to enforce the WTU-DCPS contract, continually strive to strengthen educator-administrator collaboration, and when necessary, process grievances.

Every WTU member has a say in determining the union’s programs, policies, activities and leadership. Through the Union’s legislative activities, member voices are amplified in public debates. Members are eligible for discounts to WTU professional development courses. Participants in these courses, which are all research-based, peer-to-peer and solution-driven, are aligned to the DCPS IMPACT Teaching and Learning Framework and Essential Practices Standards 1 through 5. WTU members also have access to medical, legal and other benefits and support should you become unemployed, sick, disabled, or have need of family leave. WTU members can receive discounts on a wide variety of products and services. To download DCPS' Administrative Premium Pay Authorization, click here.
