The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) is the state education agency for the District ofColumbia charged with raising the quality of education for all DC residents. OSSE oversees teacher licensure and credentialing. Although a license is not required to apply to teach in DCPS, consistent with governing regulations (5-A DCMR §1601.1), a valid teaching credential, issued by OSSE is required to teach in DCPS.

The WTU offers professional development, to help teachers earn their continuing educational credits, as well as courses geared to help teachers pass Praxis tests. The WTU will help you stay on-top of your recertification process, but if you have any questions, please contact your WTU Field Representative.
