Newly retired teachers who would like to join the Retiree chapter and maintain dental and vision insurance benefits, must enroll during the month of their retirement and pay a pro-rated cost for coverage. Retired teachers who are 6 months or more into their retirement must wait to enroll for dental and vision benefits during open enrollment.

Retirees built the Washington Teachers’ Union (WTU) to create and sustain the conditions it takes to ensure that each and every student in Washington, D.C., receives a world-class education.

Retirees fought for and won the benefits they and active members enjoy.

Moreover, a growing number of members of the WTU Retirees Chapter are deeply involved in working to improve the DC community and in efforts to ensure excellence in DC public education. Several work to support pro-education candidates in DC elections and others run for public offices themselves.

Today, more than ever, active teachers look to retirees for guidance.Join_the_Reitrees_chapter_-_Graphic.jpg
