Decolonizing the Curriculum

Join Washington Teachers’ Union and Teaching for Change as we host a Decolonizing the Curriculum summer series beginning July 27th. This six-session series will feature presentations disrupting the master narrative in classroom curriculum, by providing hands-on strategies with lessons to be used in-person and virtually.

Each session is standalone (2 PLU's per session) so attend one or all six Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. EST via Zoom.

National Flagway Tournament Winners!!!

Congratulations to the Flagway Team from CW Harris ES, and Coach Kendra Heffelbower who placed 2nd in the national Flagway tournament. Coach Heffelbower and her students did an amazing job and represented splendidly for the WTU and all DC...We would also like to thank Raphael Bonhomme, the WTU Flagway League Coordinator, for his leadership.

 

2021 National Family and Community Engagement Conference (starts TODAY!)

This year's 2021 National Family and Community Engagement Conference will provide an opportunity to highlight innovation and high-impact strategies that you don't want to miss. This year’s conference will be virtual from June 1-4 2021 with the theme Connected Together & Stronger Than Ever.

The 2021 National Family and Community Engagement Conference will highlight exemplary engagement strategies from around the country. Attendees will learn about the latest research and examine how schools and communities around the country are realizing mutual goals and maximizing impact through productive family-school-community partnerships.

The 8th Annual ED Games Expo: June 1 to 5  (starts TODAY!)

The ED Games Expo is an annual showcase of game-changing U.S. government supported innovations in EdTech. The Expo is all virtual this year, and free and open to the public.  This year’s Expo will feature 160+ education learning games and tech for students and educators to demo at no-cost in June (see the ED Games Expo YouTube Playlists Page with video trailers) AND 35 engaging EdTech events with content of interest to a wide-audience, including students, educators, developers, researchers, and stakeholders.  (See the Agenda for the lineup of events)

Make sure to tune in to the prime-time premiere of the ED Games Expo Kick Off Show on Tuesday, June 1 at 8PM eastern, featuring remarks from the Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona, and hosted by characters from the children’s TV program Between the Lions and the puppets from the INSIGHTS into Children’s Temperament Intervention!

Attention High School Educators:

The United Planning Organization is providing an opportunity for students to explore alternatives to postsecondary education by examining career options in the construction trade industry focusing on these four areas: ❱ Professional Building Maintenance (PBM) ❱ Electrical Technician ❱ Broadband Telecommunications ❱ Plumbing Technician

Students will participate in 8 weeks of learning workshops, 4 Saturdays/month, 10AM-2PM. A stipend of $50 per session will be provided with lunch for each session. This opportunity is open to DC high school juniors and seniors.

DCPS iDC Conference (June 29, 2021 @ 9:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M. )

iDC Institute 2021 is a knowledge sharing conference on best practices for integrating technology.  DCPS is gathering educators and staff from around the District to collaborate, network, and learn together.  Join us for a virtual conference where you can connect, experience, and create! Opportunities from the National Math Alliance:

  • Reminder: MSRI online Workshop on Mathematics and Racial Justice - June 9-11 & June 16-18, 2021 - Sessions will explore the role that mathematics plays in today’s movement for racial justice.
  • The Julia Robinson Math Festival is on May 29, on Gathertown – which is like video game/zoom. Enter into that space and participants will go to a Spanish or English section, and have four or five activities.  Later we’ll have other languages such as Arabic and Hebrew – there will be different spaces for a multicultural , multilingual experience.  You can find more information here: https://www.jrmf.org/math-festivals
