The Union Update

Take Action

Don’t Get Your Wellness Half Day on Monday? Fill Out the WTU Support Form

Monday, Nov. 3rd is a half day for Records Keeping and a half day for Wellness starting at 12 noon. WTU members are not required to attend PD or remain on site in the afternoon so take time to BE WELL! If you're asked to stay and are not able to take your Wellness half day, please document this request in our support form.

Committee on Public Education (COPE) (Zoom) - 11/3/25, 5:30PM

In Monday's meeting, we will decide on recommendations for the WTU Rep Assembly in November, including early involvement in the Ward 1 race, potential campaigns for DC SBOE Wards 3 & 6, and this month’s Political Education activity for members. Your voice matters. Let’s shape our union’s next steps together.

International Educators Committee (Zoom) - 11/3/25, 7PM

Join us Monday as we strategize to win restoration of the DCPS Green Card Program this November. We’ll leave with clear next steps and actionable plans to mobilize support and make it happen.

Socialite Committee (Zoom) - 11/4/25, 5 PM

Help us shape the WTU Holiday Party proposal to present to the Rep Assembly and Executive Board for approval and funding. We'll brainstorm what members want most, how to keep costs low, and creative ways to boost attendance and celebration.

Professional Development Committee  (Zoom) - 11/5/25, 5PM

Join us as we review the latest survey data to identify the professional learning courses members want most this winter. We’ll craft a proposal for the WTU Rep Assembly to approve and include in the upcoming Winter Course Book.

Organizing Committee (Zoom) - 11/5/25, 5:30PM

Help us build a powerful action plan to defend educator planning time across the District. We’ll craft district-wide strategies and a menu of school-based organizing actions to propose at the November Representative Assembly.

What's New

Educators Aren't Attendance Police

President Fuchs calls out DCPS for piling on responsibilities while ignoring the real causes of chronic absenteeism.

WTU Joins Lawsuit Challenging ICE Raids Near D.C. Schools

The Washington Teachers’ Union has joined a landmark federal lawsuit accusing ICE of racially motivated mass arrests near schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods in D.C. Educators say these raids are traumatizing students, driving families into hiding, and triggering an attendance crisis across the District.
