With Mayor Bowser announcing she will not be running for reelection - now is the time for the WTU to get endorse and push for a candidate who cares about our public schools and will negotiate our next contract with us. We will be going over our candidate questionnaire for DC Council and Mayor - so join us!

WTU International Educators Committee Meeting (Zoom) - 12/1/25, 7PM

Join the International Educators Committee Meeting to stand with over 300 H1B educators whose futures and our students’ stability are at risk after DCPS abruptly ended its Green Card policy. Together, we’ll organize to demand the promised pathway to permanent residency and protect the global talent that strengthens our schools.

Join this week’s Socialite Committee meeting as we finalize plans for the Winter gathering, while continuing to create fun outlets beyond work with relaxing break‑time trips and two annual parties.

WTU Professional Development Committee (Zoom) – 12/3/25, 5:30PM

We will continue building on the Professional Development the WTU has offered, will continue to offer, and what we want to do to further support the Professional Development of Teachers. This is open to all members, but we especially want to hear from our current AFT trainers on what has worked, what hasn't, and how we can build off the work everyone has already done.

Join WTU Leadership to learn more and tell us your thoughts on updated WTU Constitution and Bylaws changes BEFORE they get voted on by the WTU Executive Board.

WTU Organizing Committee (Zoom) - 12/4/25, 5PM

If you believe we deserve better working conditions, more support in our classrooms, and a greater voice in decisions that impact our schools, this is where it all starts. At this first meeting, we’ll connect with each other, share insights from WTU members across our DCPS, and discuss how we can improve our Union Leadership Institute and plan how we can build the collective strength needed to create meaningful change. All members are welcome!

Self-Contained Educators, We Need You!

The WTU Special Education Committee is gathering input from educators who teach self-contained classes to strengthen our advocacy around oversized classrooms and lack of resources. If you teach a self-contained class, please take a few minutes to complete.

Support International Educators: Email Campaign to DCPS Dual Language Program Lead

DCPS is still refusing to spend the money appropriated by the DC Council to restart the Green Card Policy for our over 300 International Educators working in DCPS on H1B Visas. We are starting an e-mail writing campaign to target influential people in DCPS and DC Government to join our call for DCPS to do the right thing. Take 2-3 minutes and send a pre-written (or you can edit) email today!
