The WTU has hired 4 amazing new staff members to support the work of our union.
Welcome to:
- Zachary Carroll - WTU Grievance Specialist
- Jeremiah Lowery - WTU Organizer
- Rejil Solis - WTU Organizer
- Akua Tay - WTU Communication Specialist
The Washington Teachers Union has voted to hire the following people as full-time staff:
- Akua Tay, WTU Communications Specialist – A DC native coming from a family of teachers, deeply impressed the WTU with a deep commitment to telling the stories of members, having a clear process for how to quickly integrate into the WTU and our work and understanding both how to improve communications internally with our membership as well as externally with the DCPS Community at large.
- Zachary Carroll, WTU Grievance Specialist - A current WTU Building Rep and former WTU Contract Bargaining Team Member at Francis Education Campus, Zachary demonstrated a fluency in the contract, deep commitment to the work of the WTU, and came with a plan to help build systems to improve the work of our grievance handling and how to communicate and work with the organizing team to win.
- Rejil Solis, WTU Organizer – Returning to the WTU, Solis has the knowledge and commitment to organizing in the education sector that the WTU needs to build our team. An empathetic and caring leader who understands the strategies behind collective action and escalating tactics, he has the determination and ability to build our strength in the WTU.
- Jeremiah Lowery, WTU Organizer – A DC native and long time community organizer, who has stood by the WTU had experiences ranging from political to labor, Jeremiah understands what it takes to build a movement to make lasting change. At the forefront of movements that have won DC workers rights, he understands what it takes both as a union member and organizer to build the District we want to see.
