Week of March 30, 2026

We are heartened to see so many of our members showing up at No Kings rallies throughout the region. I personally drew renewed clarity meeting up with fellow members, labor allies, Free DC and hearing students speak at the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge then marching to tell Stephen Miller to keep his hands off DC.

The call from FreeDC was clear: we need to not only make stronger demands of the national government to keep their hands off DC and constrain ICE, we also need to hold our local elected officials accountable to truly supporting all of DC residents. Right now we can do that by electing candidates who stand on our values like Aparna Raj for DC Council in Ward 1. - Laura Fuchs, WTU President

Opportunities to Get involved This Week

All out for Aparna Candidate for DC Council's Open Ward 1 seat- March 31st 6-8PM in Wonderland Ballroom (1101 Kenyon St NW).

Aparna Raj is a union member and community organizer running for DC Council in Ward 1! She served on her unit’s bargaining committee to win pay increases and better benefits for her and her coworkers. She fought to raise the tipped minimum wage in DC and has been active in supporting DC’s workers, from picketing alongside WTU when we were called in at 5AM to bargain, restaurant workers, bus drivers, and mechanics, to rallying in defense of federal workers and workers across the District.

RSVP today and be part of the movement to elect Aparna!

Can’t make it? Aparna is a Fair Elections candidate, which means she is fully grassroots funded and is only taking small-dollar donations of up to $50. Donations from DC residents are matched 5x (!), so even a little goes a long way. Link to give: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/aparnafordc
