An official from DC Public Schools emailed the WTU expressing DCPS' opinion that the WTU Leave Banks have been significantly overdrawn over the past 5 years and that they are "eager to reopen the WTU leave banks for the upcoming school year, but we are unable to do so while they remain in arrears."
The WTU's unequivocal position is that the Leave Banks are a contractually protected right of our members as negotiated through the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and must be available for members to access this coming school year. The Leave Banks are a shared responsibility between the WTU and DC Public Schools. We dispute DCPS’s position and intend to communicate that the Banks must reopen under the contract.

We understand that this leaves many highly concerned about using the bank for any Leave of Absence in the upcoming school year. This is why we must organize to defend our contractual right and we want you to have a voice in the planning and execution of those actions. We will also be planning for how to recruit members to give to the banks and show DCPS that this is a valued resource that must be properly managed and protected.
We have added the discussion of the upcoming WTU Meeting with DCPS on this issue to the original agenda for the Leave Bank Task Force being held later today that is open to all members. You can register at the link below:
